Our water treatment products combine chemical and physical adsorption to remove particulate (or physical) filtration contaminants from water. Activated alumina has a wide variety of adsorption sites and high surface area, making it an excellent choice for adsorbing a variety of harmful minerals in water, with proven results for high levels of arsenic, fluoride, copper, zinc, lead and phosphate. There is also potential for chromium, silicon, selenium and mercury.

Arsenic removal in areas with naturally high concentrations, leading to arsenic poisoning, as well as factors that have been identified in different forms of cancer. Identification of this problem has precipitated levels as high as 50 ppb (parts per billion) down to 5 ppb or less in many countries. With regeneration, activated alumina is recognized as an excellent technical product, with low compliance levels. New requirements for arsenic development are needed with higher absorption capacity and cost effectiveness without the need for regeneration or creation of hazardous wastes, requiring special treatment capabilities.

Rural areas of India and Bangladesh have very high levels of arsenic in their water, but lack the means to treat and build large public water systems with regeneration. Shandong Bairui Chemical Technology Co., Ltd. produces enhanced activated alumina that increases arsenic adsorption capacity while maintaining all necessary physical and chemical properties to work effectively under a variety of conditions.

Fluoride Removal Fluoride is generally considered beneficial to dental health at levels up to 1.5 PPM (parts per million). However, at higher levels, it has been linked to fluorosis, a disease that leads to weakened bone structure, as well as discoloration and staining of teeth. Fluoride at harmful levels occurs naturally in groundwater in the same areas as arsenic. Alcan offers XR-105, an activated alumina product for fluoride removal. Due to the higher levels of fluoride compared to arsenic, regeneration is usually required to make it cost effective. Boost products can be provided for applications where regeneration is not feasible.
